Can you believe that for someone who loves makeup I've never written a post on any foundations – which is strange considering I think that getting a flawless base is one of the most important parts of a makeup routine. I've used the MAC Studio Fix foundation for years now and have never deviated from it. I love it so much I haven't even come close to wanting to try another foundation. I mean why fix what isn't broken, hey? So without anything new to try I've had nothing to post…. well until now….

Something else I have never done is try any of the samples you get free in magazines. I can't really explain why. Maybe nothing has caught my attention, maybe I thought there wouldn't be enough product in them. I don't know. But for some unknown reason to me I tried the Clinique Beyond Perfection foundation sample in a magazine the other day and I was shocked – in a good way. It was amazing, so much so I quickly headed off to go and buy myself the full size version.
The Clinque Beyond Perfection foundation is a foundation and concealer in one, making it full coverage which is completely buildable. The foundation is quite thick which blends easily but dries fairly quickly. It melts into the skin leaving you with a velvety matte finish and a flawless natural complexion.
My skin is mainly dry but I can get an oily T-Zone and have no problems on any areas on my face with this foundation. The Beyond Perfection foundation is oil free so perfect for those who do suffer with oiler skin. It feels surprisingly lightweight on the skin for such a full coverage effect and lasts for hours.
Clinque Beyond Perfection foundation comes in a glass bottle with a doe foot applicator – just like a lip gloss or concealer wand. It makes the foundation easy to apply precisely where you want it with small dabs, although I'm not keen that I'm your not able to control how much comes out of the bottle. I also think there could be a lot of wastage when you get towards the end of the of the bottle, as you won't be able to get the liquid at the bottom out easily enough. But only time will tell on that front. The doe foot applicator is great for dabbing on areas you want extra coverage like spots and blemishes.
Beyond Perfection goes on slightly darker than you would expect and then cleverly adapts to your skin tone after a few minutes due to the high pigments in the formula. The only downside of this foundation is the colour range for pale skin. Their lightest shade is 0.5 Breeze which is still too dark for me. I need the equivalent of the MAC NW10 or lighter. As the colour of my skin varies so much (because I regularly fake tan) I bought shade 7 Cream Chamois, as I use it to contour with when I'm wearing fake tan. It's a real shame they can't also do lighter shades for paler skin, although it's not only Clinique who don't offer very fair shades – most cosmetic brands don't unfortunately. Boo! 🙁
Beyond Perfection does not contain any SPF or titanium dioxide meaning your photos will look fab with zero flashback, but you aren't protected from any of the suns nasty rays – so bare that in mind if you like your foundation to contain an SPF. Wd reformat for mac.
I totally love this foundation for the coverage and immaculate finish it provides, without feeling at all cakey on the skin.
I'm now on a role with being adventurous and trying new foundations so I'm looking try to other full coverage foundations – but ones that are pale enough for me. I've been recommended Illamasqua and Makeup Forever, but if you know of any others then let me know!
BTW I still absolutely LOVE MAC Studio Fix liquid foundation. If you like full coverage foundation and haven't tried it you need Western digital external for mac. it in your life.

Update for all MAC foundation fan-atics: Thanks to the new MAC Studio Fix Soft Matte Foundation Sticks, this fall we'll have yet another reason to stick around the MAC counter.
One of my tried-and-true all-time MAC faves is their Studio Fix Foundation (it's wicked dermatological wizardry when mixed with a few drops of Strobe Cream and set with Mineralize Skinfinish Natural), so I'm excited about this cream stick foundation, which comes in 33 colors and hits shelves beginning September 5.
Like the O.G. Studio Fix Foundation, these sticks promise a flawless finish and a formula that's theoretically supposed to last 86,400 seconds…which is 24 hours, in case you were wondering.
However, unlike the original Studio Fix Foundation and its ultra-perfected, complete coverage, Studio Fix Soft Matte Foundation is medium coverage and made to appeal to makeup minimalists, a la the low-maintenance girl (or guy) looking to even out their skin tone and ever-so-slightly blur some pores.

MAC recommends applying Studio Fix Soft Matte Foundation Stick with their 170 Synthetic Rounded Slant Brush, the 182 Foundation Brush, the 130 Synthetic Short Duo Fibre Brush, a sponge, or swiped directly on the face and tapped with fingers.
